20.4.15- This week we have learnt how ch can have a different sound, for example it can be 'c' in school and it can make a 'sh' sound in parachute. We have learnt our main sounds now and will be looking at different vowel sounds and less common sounds over the next few weeks, as well as revising for our screening assessment.
13.4.15- This week the children have been doing some phonics assessments with me, so we can work out which sounds we need to practise over the next term. The children have done really well and can recognise most of their sounds. The ones that were trickier were ew (screw), au (haunted), aw (saw) and the ue/u-e sounds (flute, blue, argue). The children struggled to spot split sounds within nonsense words and real words so we will also be practising this skill in preparation for our phonics screening in June. Any support that you can give at home is vital for the children's fluency and confidence.
W.C. 9.3.15 words with wh (silent h).
W.C. 23.2.15- After a break we decided that we needed to spend some time revising some of the sounds that we have already learnt, with a focus of au and aw. On Friday the children will be taking home new spellings with a focus on these sound and some others that we find tricky.
W.C. 2.2.15- this week we have been learning alternative spellings for the 'er' sound, including ur and ir.
We will give out new spellings this Friday using these new sounds, however, the last spelling test of this term will be Thursday 12th Feb as we are not in school on Friday 13th due to Inset day.

W.C: 26.1.15- This week we have been revising all our sounds learnt so far. The children have practised spelling tricky words and would benefit from practising the spelling of phase 4 words:
said, have, like, so, do, some, come, were, there, one, little, when, out, what.
We have also been learning alternative ow sounds (house, mouse, found etc) , which the children have been given as their spellings for next week.
Please continue to practise all the sounds with the children as they will need to know them by the end of Year 1.
We have been learning alternative spellings for ee this week (24.11.14) these include e-e which we have already learnt, ie as in shield and ea as in beach. Next week we will look at y and ey (as in funny and donkey).
We find learning our Phase 5 sounds very hard because there are so many to remember. Please help us at home- point them out in our reading books as well if you can!
This week (w.c. 17.11.14) we have been learning all the alternative spellings for ai. These include a-e, eigh, ay and ey.
Please practise these with your children at home.
After revision of our phase 4 sounds and tricky words last term, we have begun to learn our alternative spellings for the sounds we already know.
This week we have learnt:
a-e as in made, snake, take
u-e as in rude, prune (oo sound)
u-e as in tube, tune (yoo sound)
We are also busy practising our high frequency words for phase 4 and 5. You may want to play this game at home to practise:

Your child will be bringing home the sound that we have been learning that day in their phonics books. Please practise these daily. Some days I will put an activity in their books for the children to complete at home.
